About us
Meningitis Research Foundation is an international health charity headquartered in the UK, driven by a passionate mission to prevent the devastating impact of meningitis. Founded by individuals whose lives were profoundly affected by meningitis, we are dedicated to enabling positive change by uniting people and knowledge to save lives.
The Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (CoMO) is our worldwide network of people and groups who are driven by a shared purpose to defeat meningitis. By coming together to share their diverse experience and expertise, they are a formidable global force against this life-threatening condition.
Our work
Research for evidence-based action
Since we were founded in 1989, we have awarded 160+ research grants, investing over £19.5 million in vital scientific research into all areas of meningitis prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Supporting lives affected by meningitis
One of the earliest reasons for Meningitis Research Foundation forming was to offer emotional support to those affected by meningitis in their darkest moments. Every day we answer people’s questions, so no one affected by meningitis is alone.
Campaigning and advocacy to defeat meningitis wherever it exists
Our campaigns make sure people know meningitis is a threat, so communities worldwide can be safe from harm. We put the voices of people affected by meningitis in front of those who make decisions about the healthcare available to us all, to ensure meningitis is a global health priority that cannot be ignored.
The Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (CoMO)
CoMO was established in 2004 and became the civil society network arm of Meningitis Research Foundation in 2021. Today we have expanded to over 130 members in more than 50 countries, with Africa our fastest-growing member region. As a coalition of people and groups striving to defeat meningitis in their countries and communities, equipping CoMO members for success is our primary purpose. We arm them with the most effective tools and evidence for campaigning and advocacy, including the opportunity to come together for our member conference, where we foster collaboration to inspire change.

CoMO was the pioneer of the very first World Meningitis Day. Every year, it has continued to grow. Meningitis Research Foundation is proud to unite with CoMO members across the world and play our part in expanding its reach and impact.
